# How to read park closures & visitor notices

Check the affected area, source, dates, and last verification before planning a Maryland park visit.

Reviewed Oct 15, 2026 · Maryland Parks

A useful park notice answers four questions: what happened, where it applies, when it applies, and which agency confirmed it.

## A park can have different conditions in different areas

Read the notice’s availability, reason, and comments together. A closed road, campground, beach, or trail does not necessarily mean an entire park is closed.

## Start with the managing agency

Maryland DNR’s park-status dashboard publishes status information with availability, reasons, and comments. County and federal park operators also publish their own updates. Follow the source link on each notice for the latest details.

## Understand the dates on this site

“Last checked” is the date our scripts successfully checked a source. It is separate from the date an incident began or an announcement was published. Conditions are refreshed daily, so a change can happen between checks.

## Missing information is not an all clear

We retain unresolved notices when a source becomes unavailable. Look for the last successful check and the official verification link. Use the park’s current directions and posted instructions when you arrive.
